The Landmark FuelSecure team was contacted by a prospective client looking for a fuel monitoring solution. The client noticed a drastic increase in their fleets fuel usage over a short period of time which did not align with the fuel cost fluctuations. They established that the fuel usage spiked on trips where the fleet crossed the border and wanted to confirm if our fuel monitoring systems could help them combat this ongoing challenge.
The clients’ challenge
As a border logistics company, the client often sends their fleet across the border for various types of cargo deliveries. They wanted a solution that would allow them to easily monitor the fleets fuel usage, receive real-time notifications whenever fuel is being added, dispensed, or drained, identify which vehicle is using the most fuel per trip, and ensure the quality of fuel being used by the fleet.
The Landmark FuelSecure Solution
The Landmark FuelSecure team partnered with the client to help them resolve this costly problem. Their system tagged instances of fuel theft at various locations close to filling stations and we were able to determine that syndicates were targeting their drivers at these filling stations. We noted only two of the identified theft sites were not adjacent or close to filling stations, with the thefts occurring in South Africa and across the border.
We advised the client on the following solutions:
- The client could extend their fuel probe system by adding additional probes, all reporting to one GSM probe.
- Installing a long-range fuel tank on their vehicles, allowing them to make a round trip comfortably without adding additional fuel.
Results
The client installed a fuel tank in their depot and added the Landmark FuelSecure probe to the depot tank. With this solution, they are now able to efficiently manage and monitor all their fuel transactions and usage from anywhere. Since installation, they have had no loss incidents proving the impact a fuel monitoring solution can have in combating fuel theft. The system also allows them to verify if the correct type and amount of fuel is being delivered by their supplier.
